Grilled Fruit Recipes

Grill Apple Slices, Grilled Fruit Recipe If you want grilled dessert, these grilled fruit recipes offer lots of choices. Grilling fruit isn't a common method of preparation, but it has been catching on.

More people are finding that high-temperature searing of fruits adds interesting and complex flavors

Fruits that work well on the grill include stone fruits, like peaches, apricots, nectarines and large Bing cherries. Seeded fruits including apples and pears grill well too. Some fruits require a gentle touch due to their fragility. These include bananas, strawberries and kiwi fruit. Pineapple and mango benefit from grilling. Melons are included in the list too. Try grilling watermelon or cantaloupe sometime!

A way to add even more flavor to your grilling is to soak the fruit in a marinade. Liquors, other fruit juices (lime, orange or lemon), and certain spices can add great flavor to many of your grilled fruit recipes.

To keep unwanted flavors from the fruit, always use a clean grate when grilling fruit. I've found that a raised cooling rack for cakes works well when grilling desserts. The rack keeps the sweet fruit well above the grates covered with meat juices and fat.

If you like pineapple, this recipe for Grilled Coconut Pineapple is one to try. Fresh pineapple slices are marinated to add flavor and sweetness, then shredded coconut is pressed onto both sides. After grilling the pineapple, serve with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

Grilled cinnamon apples are a quick dessert you can make in 15 minutes. Just slice, sweeten and grill until tender. The sugar carmelizes nicely, giving the fruit recipe a carmel apple sort of taste.
